A proposal to establish a ‘Citizen Help Centre’, where residents of the East City Corporation can submit their applications and complaints at a single location and monitor them until the issue is resolved, was discussed at a meeting chaired by Commissioner D.S. Ramesh on Saturday (August 8). The proposed system, he said, will help citizens to submit applications and complaints relating to various civic departments at a single location.

The Commissioner said the system would accept complaints submitted not only through direct visits to the office, but also through post, email, calls, WhatsApp and social media, before forwarding them to the concerned departments for action.

A system will be introduced to provide a unique acknowledgement number for every application and complaint submitted by citizens, while documents submitted along with applications will be scanned and digitally recorded, Mr. Ramesh said, adding that the help centre will not end with receiving a complaint and forwarding it to the department concerned. “A system will be put in place to continuously monitor the progress of each complaint until the issue is fully resolved,” he added.

The meeting also discussed establishing a 24-hour control room to support the functioning of the Citizen Help Centre. The control room will immediately forward applications and complaints received from the public to the departments concerned and continuously monitor their progress.
