Karnataka :Escalating debate around students wearing hijab

Although the Karnataka government announcing a fresh circular  prohibiting the hijab and saffron shawls from being worn on college  campuses.  The debate continued on Monday when students from around the state arrived wearing the shawls and hijabs. Students from two institutions in the Indi taluk of the Vijayapura district wore saffron shawls to class on Monday in protest against girl students wearing hijab in schools and colleges.  In Indi town, the incident occurred at Shanteshwar PU College and GRB Degree College. To avoid a squabble, the administrative boards of both colleges  convened an emergency meeting and proclaimed a holiday. According to the government’s decree, students must arrive to college  dressed in uniform. Meanwhile, barring of students from Venkataramana College in  Kundapur, Udupi  district, from entering the campus by  Sadashiva Gavaroji, a sub-inspector with the Kundapur police station.  They were wearing saffron shawls. According to the principal, the Students wearing saffron shawls and hijab will impermissible within the Venkataramana College campus,  On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court will hear petitions from Muslim students who are protesting the hijab ban.  The students have asked the government and the education department to give them permission to wear hijab and attend classes.  The state government has stated that once the High Court issues its  orders, they will formulate a uniform policy. Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the civic agency of the state capital renowned as India’s Silicon Valley,  intended to take precautionary measures in the event that the hijab row resurfaced.  The administration has begun delivering uniforms, shoes, and books to  students, with the goal of finishing the process as soon as possible.
