Overall Electric Vehicles (EV) retail sales in July 2026 rose 66% Year-on-Year (YoY) to 3,27,901 units, and with this, nearly one in eight vehicles retailed is now electric, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA).
During the month, electric two-wheeler retail sales crossed the two-lakh mark for the first time and surged to 204,362 units up 88% YoY. This segment achieved a market share of 11.2% as compared with a share of 7.7% a year ago. This segment was led by TVS Motor which retailed 55,499 units, up 135% YoY.
Electric three-wheelers achieved a share of 65.1%, up from 60.3% a year ago. During July 2026 a total of 87,055 units of electric three wheelers were retailed which was a growth of 25.30% over the same period last year. This segment was led by Mahindra Group which has reported retail sales of 14,191 units, up 45% YoY.
Electric commercial vehicles market share nearly tripled to a record 3.57% as against a share of 1.65% a year ago due to rise in fleet electrification. In July 2026 a total of 3,556 units of electric commercial vehicles were retailed as compared with 1,324 units a year ago, up 169%. This segment was led by Tata Motors which retailed 1,306 units, up 288% YoY.
And passenger EVs during the month achieved a market share of 7.9% as compared with a share of 5.1% a year ago. Retail sales at 32,928 units grew 83% YoY. This segment was led by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles which retailed 13,678 units, up 103% YoY. Mahindra had retailed 7,742 units, up 126% YoY.
“The EV transition has stopped being a forecast, it is now a showroom reality,” said Sai Giridhar, Vice President, FADA.
