Adani Green Energy commissions 3.37 GWh battery-energy storage system in Gujarat’s Khavda

Adani Green Energy informed on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) that it has commissioned 3.37 Gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system in Gujarat’s Khavda. The deployment is inclusive of the 1.37 GWh capacity it had commissioned in March this year.

The green energy company said in a statement that the commissioned battery energy storage system can “store enough clean energy to power nearly one million homes for an entire day, supporting peak electricity demand of cities like Indore, Chandigarh or the entire State of Goa.”

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) are systems used to store electricity that is produced by power generation plants such that they can be made available any time of the day irrespective of the source being available. They are particularly essential for renewable sources which may not be available all along the day.

It further enumerated about their plans to add more than 10 GWh of battery storage capacity within the ongoing fiscal year itself and scale the BESS to 50 GWh over the next five years.

Overall, the company is targeting to institute 30 GW worth renewable capacity by 2029. Of this, 9.9 GW is already operational.
