Man held for stealing ₹25 lakh from van transferring cash

Posted on May 16, 2026 By admin

The Velachery police arrested Vignesh Kumar, 27, for stealing ₹25 lakh from a cash van used to replenish ATMs of private banks.

The accused was employed as a driver by Hitech Cash Management, a private cash logistics firm in Velachery.

The police said the incident came to light during a routine audit conducted by the company. Aravindan, the manager of the firm, noticed a shortage of funds and reviewed CCTV footage installed inside the cash van.

The footage reportedly showed Vignesh Kumar shifting cash from boxes stored inside the vehicle while security guards and company staff were engaged in replenishing cash at an ATM centre.

Based on Aravindan’s complaint, the police registered a case, arrested Vignesh Kumar and recovered ₹8 lakh from him. Further investigation is under way to trace the remaining money.
