Members of the Kalyana Karnataka Division Private Educational Institutions’ Managements Federation have decided to stage an indefinite protest from Wednesday (September 9), demanding that the State government and the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) extend financial and infrastructural support to unaided private educational institutions in the region.
Federation president Sunilkumar R. Hudgi, addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi on Sunday (September 6), said private educational institutions in Kalyana Karnataka were providing quality education despite facing several challenges and financial constraints. The government should extend the benefits available to government and aided schools to unaided private schools as well, he said.
Mr. Hudgi demanded that unaided private educational institutions in Kalyana Karnataka be provided assistance under Article 371J on the lines of the Vidarbha model. He also sought financial assistance from the KKRDB for schools established after 1995 and demanded that such institutions be brought under the grant-in-aid system.
Urging the State government to provide grants for essential infrastructure such as laboratories, classrooms, smart boards, benches and compound walls, Mr. Hudgi also called for simplifying the process of renewal of recognition for private schools.
The federation’s members demanded that free electricity be extended to unaided private educational institutions and also sought exemption from property tax for schools located within gram panchayat limits, on the lines of exemptions available to educational institutions under municipal and other local bodies.
They urged the State government to upgrade the Additional Commissionerate of the Education Department in Kalaburagi into a full-fledged Commissionerate and grant it autonomy.
The federation has announced that the indefinite protest will be taken out in front of the KKRDB office in Kalaburagi city. Representatives of private educational institutions and office-bearers from all seven districts and taluks of Kalyana Karnataka will participate in the protest in phases, Mr. Hudgi said.
