T.N. Speaker Prabhakar says decision on AIADMK split will show his neutrality

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar, on Sunday (May 24, 2026), said everyone will know whether he functioned in an impartial manner or not in the issue of split in the AIADMK legislature party when he would take a decision and announce it on the floor of the House.

Speaking to reporters after paying tributes to former Speaker Si.Pa. Adithanar in Chennai on the late leader’s death anniversary, Mr. Prabhakar, while responding to a question on allegations of bias raised by some leaders on part of the Speaker in taking a decision on the petitions submitted to him by two groups of AIADMK legislators, said “I am functioning in a neutral manner. Two groups of the AIADMK legislators have submitted petitions to me. After examining them properly and taking the right decision at the appropriate time, when I announce it in the Assembly, everyone will know how fairly I have acted.”

Minister for School Education Rajmohan, who accompanied the Speaker, while responding to a question on DMK president M. K. Stalin’s remark that the TVK-led government would not last for five years, said “He [Mr. Stalin] had earlier said we [TVK] would not come to power. But we did. Now he is predicting that our government will not survive. However, with the overwhelming support of the people, this government will continue even beyond the next 50 years.”

Replying to a question on the DMK’s criticism of the Congress party for joining hands with TVK, the Minister said “It only reflects a feudal mindset of the DMK that places itself in a superior position and views alliance parties as subordinates. In democracy, only the leaders and cadre of a party have the right to decide their course with whom they should form an alliance. It is not appropriate to belittle a major national movement in this manner.”

He further said within a few days of the TVK-led government assuming office, swift measures had been taken on the law and order front. Many history-sheeters had been identified and arrested. Even in the Coimbatore incident, the accused had been arrested and prompt action was taken.
