Updated IPL 2024 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap Standings After KKR vs MI Match

There was no salvaging of pride for the Mumbai Indians who suffered another defeat in what has been a torrid Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs in a rain-affected match on Saturday. For MI, the opening duo of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma gave a fine start but the middle-order failed to capitalise on the platform and their chase of 158 runs derailed. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine were exceptional with the ball yet again, with the former taking home the Player of the Match award for his figures of 2/17.

IPL 2024 Points Table

Mumbai, who have now lost their 9th match in 13 games, were already out of the playoffs race. The defeat saw them remain 9th in the points table, right above the Punjab Kings who have a game in hand. Kolkata, courtesy of the win, booked their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs, becoming the first team this season to do so. Rajasthan Royals, presently placed second, however, can topple them in the games to come.

IPL 2024 Orange Cap Standings:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru stalwart Virat Kohli continues to lead the Orange Cap standings for this season, with 634 runs to his name in 12 matches. Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is next in the list with 541 runs in 12 games. Sunrisers Hyderbad’s power-hitter Travis Head follows Gaikwad with 533 runs in 11 games. A surprise entry in the top 5 is Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan who has had a phenomenal campaign with the bat. He has 527 runs to his name in 12 matches. Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson concludes the top 5, having scored 471 runs in 11 matches so far in this campaign.

IPL 2024 Purple Cap Standings:

Mumbai Indians’ marquee pacer Jasprit Bumrah continues his dominance at the top of the Purple Cap standings. He has 20 wickets in 13 matches to his name, at a mean economy rate of 6.48. Punjab Kings pacer Harshal Patel is breathing down Brumah’s neck, with 20 wickets in 12 matches. But, his economy rate is fairly high at 9.75. Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who was also the Player of the Match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, also has 18 wickets in 12 games. He is placed 3rd in the list. Chakravarthy’s teammate Harshit Rana follows him at No. 4, with 16 wickets in 10 matches. Punjab Kings’ left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh concludes the top 5 with 16 wickets in 12 matches.
