Six arrested for making fake bank cheques, government seals and educational certificates

Posted on October 12, 2026 By admin

Six men were arrested by the Avadi City police on Monday for allegedly running an unauthorised unit to manufacture fake bank cheques, government and private documents, rubber stamps and educational certificates.

The racket came to light when a special police team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a suspicious man near the Metro Rail Depot bus terminus in Wimco Nagar.

The man, identified as S. Jayakumar alias Stephen, 38, was found carrying fake bank cheques, rubber stamps purportedly belonging to government and private offices, school and education department certificates, and paper used to print such documents.

During questioning, he allegedly gave contradictory answers. Further inquiry revealed that he was running a firm, Jaya Engineering Works, at Ambedkar Nagar, Ernavoor. The police found that laptops, printers, forged documents and rubber stamps were allegedly used at the premises to produce fake documents and certificates relating to banks, government and private institutions, schools and colleges without authorisation.

A case was registered at Ennore police station, and Jayakumar alias Stephen was arrested. His alleged associates — Karunakaran, Sathyamurthy, Karunanidhi, Victor, and Johnson — were also arrested. All six were remanded to judicial custody on Monday.

The operation was conducted by a special team led by Ennore Assistant Commissioner Venkata Kumar.
