Kannur University launches accident insurance cover for students

Posted on May 21, 2026 By admin

Kannur University has introduced accident insurance coverage for students for the first time in its history by implementing a scheme with an annual premium of ₹60 per student.

A total of 17,343 students from Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts enrolled from 2025 onwards will be covered under the scheme.

More than 70% of the beneficiaries are girls. Students from around 125 colleges affiliated to the university will come under the coverage.

The university is implementing the ₹5 lakh insurance policy in association with National Insurance Company.

The policy documents will be handed over at a function to be held at the university campus at Thavakkara on Friday morning. Vice Chancellor Prof K K Saju will inaugurate the programme. Following the inauguration, principals and campus directors of various colleges will be briefed on the implementation and features of the insurance scheme.
