Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Ms. Takaichi said in parliament, pledging to “formulate a comprehensive population strategy” by the end of 2026.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the decline in Japan’s population is a “quietly advancing national crisis,” in a policy speech on Monday (October 5, 2026).

“Population decline is a quietly advancing national crisis,” Ms. Takaichi said in parliament, pledging to “formulate a comprehensive population strategy” by the end of 2026.
