The Tiruchi Railway Division has taken steps to continuously monitor the quality of drinking water by ensuring strict compliance with the prescribed standards and procedures to make sure that safe and quality drinking water is supplied to passengers.
Water quality testing is being carried out through the prescribed railway laboratory / testing facilities in accordance with applicable Railway Board instructions and the Uniform Drinking Water Quality Protocol.
Officials concerned have been instructed to strictly adhere to the prescribed testing periodicity and maintain proper records of all tests. Specific targets have been fixed for water sampling and testing with instructions to ensure that there were no shortfalls.
A press release from the Tiruchi Railway Division said steps had been taken to continuously monitor the quality of drinking water through residual chlorine testing, bacteriological testing, and chemical testing. The release said Railways recently launched a special drive to clean all water tanks to improve cleanliness and quality of water and this would be periodically carried out.
Passenger health and prevention of water-borne and communicable diseases remain a priority and all departments concerned have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the prescribed standards and monitoring procedures.
Railways has solicited the cooperation of passengers and the public to join hands with it in the clean water campaign and help keep drinking water supply points and tap installations clean and hygienic through proper handling and responsible usage so as to ensure better service to passengers, the release added.
