School education department holds workshop on AI training for teachers

Posted on October 14, 2026 By admin

In an effort to optimise teaching duties, the School Education department conducted an AI-training workshop for teachers in Chennai on Wednesday.

The training programme was conducted for 81 postgraduate teachers of Class XI and XII from government and corporation schools in Chennai in the first phase. “As the academic year progresses, the programme will be expanded and will also include teachers of Class IX and X too,” said an official from the School Education Department.

Under the workshop, teachers learnt how to use various AI platforms with prompt engineering, gemini notebook, adobe express, Gimkit, and physics AI tools.

Apart from this, teachers also learnt about language models and HTML. “At least 70% of the teachers already use AI to make teaching easier. This workshop will only take it further. From physics simulations to generating questions and scenarios for tests, the proper usage of AI will help teachers save time and help them focus on teaching better,” the official added.

As doubts arise in real time classrooms, online sessions are also being held for the teachers to clarify these doubts. Apart from these, teachers can model the AI to help them in evaluation and personalise it for adapted learning.

A teacher from a government school in Chennai noted that she uses AI to generate powerpoint presentations and videos on various concepts in physics. “We have smartboards and the visual learning element from the videos, for example Ohm’s Law, immediately helps the students understand the concept faster. It has also helped us in easing our teaching methods,” she said.
