CPI (M), TN Untouchability Eradication Front to lay siege to Virudhunagar Collectorate on September 30

Posted on September 17, 2026 By admin

CPI (M) and Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front would jointly lay siege to Virudhunagar Collectorate on September 30 pressing their long-pending demand for changing the name of “Paraseri” village to North Achchamthavizhthan.

In a statement, the district secretaries, A. Gurusamy (CPI-M) and K. Murugan (front) said that the name Paraseri for the village near Srivilliputtur is openly indicating a caste name. The people of the village have been staging protests for several years demanding to change its name. However, no action has been taken till date.

Even the villagers had threatened to boycott 2026 Assembly election. Though the officials tried to pacify them, the villagers went on with their boycott after their demand was not met.

The Government has already sent a G.O. instructing the local bodies to change the names of habitations, streets, roads, waterbodies and villages if their names were identified with castes.

However, the caste name in Paraseri village continued despite the Commission for Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes had sought an explanation from the district administration. Despite drawing the attention of the Chief Minister and the Social Justice Minister and raising the issue in the State Assembly, no action has been taken, the statement said.
