88,424 people in Mysuru division yet to complete ration card e-KYC

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Rizwan Arshad said on Wednesday that as many as 88,424 people across the eight districts of the Mysuru division are yet to complete e-KYC for their ration cards.

He directed officials to expedite the process and verify cases where it had not been completed due to migration, death, marriage, relocation, or other reasons.

Speaking at a divisional-level review meeting of the department at the zilla panchayat auditorium here, Mr. Arshad said such cases should be verified, recorded with appropriate remarks, and forwarded to the department’s head office. A decision would subsequently be taken on cancellation of the ration cards concerned.

He said the Food and Civil Supplies Department was responsible for providing food to the poor and serving them, and urged officials to ensure efficient delivery of services and enhance the department’s reputation in society.

Reviewing the functioning of the Legal Metrology Department, Mr. Arshad said the public was not sufficiently aware of its role. He directed officials to intensify raids at places where consumers were being cheated through manipulation of weights and measurements.

With sugar prices witnessing a sudden rise, officials were asked to check for illegal hoarding. He also directed them to take legal action if LPG cylinders were being stored beyond the prescribed limit.

Regarding vehicles transporting ration foodgrains, he said the eight districts of the Mysuru division had 371 vehicles, of which only 176 had been fitted with GPS devices. The remaining should be fitted with GPS within 15 days and a report submitted, he directed.

He also instructed officials to intensify raids on locations where foodgrains were being illegally stored and submit regular reports on the department’s functioning. The reports would be reviewed every week, he said.

Legal Metrology Deputy Controller Sarala Naidu and Food Department Joint Director Manteswamy briefed the Minister on the functioning of their respective departments.
