Congratulating the Union government for introducing an amendment bill to crack down on public examination paper leaks, Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa challenged the Congress government in Karnataka to enact a similar law to curb irregularities in State recruitment and examinations.

Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga on Saturday, Mr. Channabasappa said the Centre had introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 to prevent paper leaks and unfair practices. He praised the Central government for the move, noting that it had also constituted a task force consisting of experts from various fields to make the examination system leak-proof.

However, he alleged that the State’s Congress government had done little to prevent irregularities in exams and recruitment. He pointed out that during previous Congress regimes, there were repeated instances of paper leaks and recruitment scams conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

He added that former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had promised to overhaul and strengthen the KPSC on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), but failed to fulfill it. “There are widespread reports of scams in the recruitment of gazetted probationers, veterinary officers, engineers, and several other posts. Let the Congress government prove its commitment to transparency by enacting a law similar to the one passed by the Centre in Parliament,” he said.
