India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Friday (July 31, 2026) met with U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, in Dhaka. Mr. Gor is on his first visit to Bangladesh in his capacity as the Trump administration’s Special Envoy to South and Central Asia. Mr. Gor, accompanied by the U.S. ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen, flew on Friday (July 31, 2026) to Chittagong, where they visited the camps of the Rohingya refugees.

The meeting between High Commissioner Trivedi and Ambassador Gor took place in a city hotel, reported the Dhaka Tribune, citing diplomatic sources. The Ministry of External Affairs here has declined to provide any information about the meeting, a first in a foreign location, between the two envoys.

Earlier on Thursday (July 30, 2026), Mr. Gor had met with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman soon after arriving in Dhaka. “It was great to meet Foreign Minister Khalil Rahman during my first visit to Bangladesh and discuss working together to strengthen the U.S.-Bangladesh relationship. Lots of positive developments,” Mr. Gor had wrote on X. Foreign Minister Rahman was accompanied by Special Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kobir.

Accompanied by Mr. Christensen, Mr. Gor on Thursday (July 30, 2026) visited the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, near Cox’s Bazar. He spent the day interacting with various relief organisations who have been helping the Rohingya refugees who are located in this area. “Today I visited Rohingya refugee communities in Cox’s Bazar with U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh. This is the largest refugee camp in the world hosting over one million refugees. The United States has supported this camp and urges our partners around the world to increase their contributions,” Mr. Gor wrote on X.

Mr. Gor is expected to call on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman, on Saturday (August 1, 2026).
