Police constable booked on charges of harassing a woman and setting fire to her car near Tiruchi

Police constable booked on charges of harassing a woman and setting fire to her car near Tiruchi

Posted on July 31, 2026 By admin

The Kollidam police have registered a case against a police constable for allegedly harassing a woman and setting fire to her car at Sankara Nagar in Kollidam Tollgate area on the outskirts of Tiruchi city recently. The case was booked on a complaint preferred by the 41-year-old woman resident of Sankara Nagar.

The police said the woman lodged a complaint on July 29 suspecting the involvement of the police constable P. Sathiyaraj, 42, attached to the Kollidam police station, in setting fire to her car that was parked in front of her house.

The woman had alleged that the constable knew her as she was an LIC agent and harassed, intimidated, and abused her after she rejected his sexual advances and did not answer his phone calls. She suspected that he was behind the incident and lodged a complaint.

The woman had parked her car and left for Thanjavur a few days ago leaving her son at home. During her absence, a person wearing a helmet broke open the car door and set it on fire and fled the spot. The fire spread to another car parked adjacent to it.

The incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras. The firefighters doused the flames. Sources said the constable had not been arrested and investigation was on.
