A doctor and his son have been booked by the Chandanagar police for obstructing a traffic constable and HYDRAA personnel from clearing rainwater that had caused severe traffic congestion near Nallagandla.
The case was registered on Wednesday based on a complaint lodged by traffic constable Santosh Kumar Kollur.
According to the complaint, the constable was on traffic regulation duty near the SBI Bank at Nallagandla at around 11 a.m. on July 20 when rainwater stagnation led to traffic disruption and inconvenience to commuters. In an attempt to restore traffic flow, he, along with HYDRAA personnel, tried to remove soil blocking the footpath and divert the accumulated water into an adjacent vacant plot.
The complaint alleges that the owner of the vacant plot, Dr Sarath Babu, and his son arrived at the spot and prevented the water from being diverted into their property by blocking its path with soil, thereby obstructing the officials from carrying out their duties.
Police said that on Wednesday morning, when the constable again attempted to clear the stagnant water and restore normal traffic movement, the accused confronted him, questioned his authority and once again obstructed the operation. The complaint further alleged that the doctor had been hindering the traffic constable and HYDRAA personnel from carrying out the clearance work over the past three days.
A case has been booked against Dr Sarath Babu and his son. Further investigation is under way.
