Special team under supervision of retired judge should investigate fake drug manufacturing cases in Puducherry, demands DMK

Special team under supervision of retired judge should investigate fake drug manufacturing cases in Puducherry, demands DMK

Posted on July 18, 2026 By admin

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has demanded an investigation into manufacturing of spurious drugs by a special team under the supervision of a retired judge in Puducherry.

Party convenor R. Siva in a statement said several cases pertaining to manufacturing of counterfeit medicines have surfaced in Puducherry during recent times. Last year, the police unearthed a major racket involved in the manufacture and sale of spurious drugs. Later the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation, he said.

“Very recently, another case has surfaced involving manufacture of counterfeit drugs. Reports suggest that around 625 varieties of medicines were smuggled to neighbouring countries. There are also reports of connivance between the accused and the ruling party members in the cases. The government should constitute a special team for the investigation under the direct supervision of a retired judge,” Mr. Siva said.

The DMK also demanded an overhaul of the Drugs Department as they failed to intervene in curbing illegal manufacturing of drugs. If the demands are not met, the party would organise major agitations against the AINRC-BJP government in Puducherry, he said.
