Three arrested for assaulting migrant workers in Ooty

Three arrested for assaulting migrant workers in Ooty

Posted on October 9, 2026 By admin

Three men were arrested for allegedly assaulting migrant workers who were traveling home after work onboard a bus in Udhagamandalam in The Nilgiris.

The three accused were identified as Arun (27), Divakar (25), and Sanjay (26), residents of Khandal in Udhagamandalam.

According to police, the three men had picked a quarrel with five migrant workers who were on a bus traveling to Khandal from Udhagamandalam town a few days ago. They had allegedly demanded that the workers give up their seats, which led to a quarrel.

After the five workers got off the bus at their bus stop in Khandal, Arun, Divakar and Sanjay allgedly followed them and attacked them, leading to a fight between both groups. Local residents, who noticed the scuffle, complained of the incident to the Nilgiris police, who launched a hunt for the people involved.

An investigation showed that the three accused were primarily at fault for the incident. The police arrested Arun, Divakar and Sanjay, who were later remanded in judicial custody.
