Water crisis dominated Dindigul Corporation Council meeting held on Monday.
The meeting was presided over by Mayor J. Ilamathi and Corporation Commissioner J. Prem Anand.
Several councillors said drinking water was supplied only once in every four days. Uninterrupted water supply should be ensured, at least through the water tankers, they said. They urged the authorities to inspect Kamarajar dam in Athoor, the main source of water for Dindigul, in this regard.
The Corporation Commissioner said there was no water in Kamarajar dam and necessary measures were being taken to provide water through the Cauvery Combined Drinking Water Scheme.
The councillors also pointed out that roads in Corporation areas needed attention. The roads should be repaired immediately. White lines should be painted on speed breakers to prevent accidents. Stray dog menace should be curbed, they said.
The Corporation Commissioner said necessary action would be taken to improve the roads. The stray dogs were sterilised to control population and they were released in the same areas, he added.
The other issues highlighted at the meeting included the need for adequate number of streetlights. The Corporation Commissioner said funds had been allocated and the work would commence soon.
Waterlogging at the underpass on Old Karur Road was also highlighted at the meeting. The Mayor and the Corporation Commissioner said necessary steps would be taken to find a permanent solution to the problem.
BJP councillor G. Dhanapal complained that only 17 of the 67 resolutions were read. However, it was declared that the full list of resolutions were read.
