Richa attributes her finishing skills to WPL exposure

There is nothing quite like learning from the best. Richa Ghosh would testify.

India’s finisher said on Tuesday playing alongside the likes of Ellyse Perry and Sophie Devine at the WPL helped her develop as one of the most explosive batters in women’s cricket.

“The WPL has helped me a lot because I have played along with domestic and international players,” said Richa on the eve of India’s match against the Netherlands at the Women’s T20 World Cup here. “In my team (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Perry was there; Devine was there; and Smriti Mandhana has been the captain.”

Richa, whose stunning onslaught at the death took India to a match-winning total against Pakistan in Birmingham in her side’s opening fixture, said she watched how the big stars in her team batted at the WPL.

“That helped me find out what I could do for my team,” she said.

“Perry is a good middle-order batter and I learned from her how to finish it off. And Devine showed how to bat in the PowerPlay.”

Richa said her innings in the warm-up match against England gave her confidence going into tournament. “In the practice match, I had so many overs to play, and that innings made me confident.

“When I was not scoring runs, I focused on practice. Speaking to Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti also helped”.
