Four persons arrested for attempt to steal valuables at DRI premises in Teynampet

Four persons arrested for attempt to steal valuables at DRI premises in Teynampet

Posted on June 9, 2026 By admin

Four persons have been arrested for tying up a security guard and attempting to steal valuables after breaking the window of a car parked inside the office premises of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on G.N. Road in T. Nagar.

According to the police, John Kennedy, a security guard employed at the DRI office, was on duty during the early hours of May 31 when two masked men scaled the compound wall and entered the premises. The intruders allegedly assaulted him, tied his hands and legs, and stuffed a cloth in his mouth, causing him to lose consciousness.

After regaining consciousness, Kennedy managed to free himself and found that the window of a car connected to an investigation and parked within the office premises had been smashed. The suspects had fled the scene by then.

Kennedy informed DRI officials, following which a complaint was lodged with the crime wing of the Teynampet Police Station. The police registered a case and launched an investigation.

After analysing CCTV camera footage and using other tools, the police identified and arrested four suspects in Thanjavur. The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Hadi, 24, of Karaikal, Anoop, 33, of Ernakulam, Adithyan, 20, of Palakkad, Kerala; and Simlal, 53, of Kollam, Kerala.

The accused were brought to Chennai and interrogated on June 8. The police seized two face masks from them. Following the inquiry, all four were produced before a court on June 8 and remanded to judicial custody.

The police said efforts are under way to trace and arrest other absconding suspects involved in the case.
