A 33-year-old former bouncer shot dead his two sisters-in-law at his in-laws’ residence in Raipur on Tuesday night (May 5, 2026), said the police. Prima facie, repeated quarrels between the accused and his wife escalated into the incident.
The accused, Jitendra Verma, pumped bullets into Geetanjali (26) and Durgeshwari (24) — both sisters of his wife, Khileshwari — at their residence around 9:30 p.m. The incident took place just hours after Khileshwari had a fight with Verma and went to her maternal home along with the couple’s one-year-old daughter.
A police officer said that Verma reached Khileshwari’s parents’ home, where he found the two victims and their mother, with whom he argued over his demand to meet his daughter.
“He then pulled out his licensed pistol, and while they tried to stop him, he fired one bullet that hit Geetanjali in the neck. When Durgeshwari tried to run away, he shot at her from a distance. The bullet struck her in the head and then exited,” the officer added.
The duo’s elderly mother, who was present, alerted the police. A police team arrived at the scene and rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, where Geetanjali died during treatment, while Durgeshwari passed away on Wednesday morning (May 6, 2026), according to the police.
The officer added that Verma obtained a licensed pistol from the authorities six years ago when he worked as a bouncer. Initially, he received a license for a 12-bore gun, and in 2022, he acquired a licensed pistol. However, a couple of years later, he lost his job as a bouncer and began working as a plumber, even as he continued to “freelance” as a bouncer.
The accused has been arrested and the murder weapon, the licensed pistol, and two magazines have been seized, along with a pistol from him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that there were frequent fights between Verma and his wife. She had even verbally informed the police that he would abuse and assault her when he was in an inebriated state but did not proceed with submitting a formal complaint.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Mayank Gurjar stated that a murder case has been registered at the Pandri police station, and the accused has been arrested.
