Cyclone Montha LIVE updates: Deep depression over the Bay intensifies into cyclonic storm

Due to the warnings issued about Cyclone Montha formed in the Bay of Bengal, the Coastal Marine staff along with the local station police vacated the visitors from the seashore at Kothapatnam seashore near in Prakasam district on October 26, 2025

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its 25th bulletin sent at 2.24 a.m. on Monday (October 27, 2025), said the deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Montha’. 

At 11.30 p.m., the storm lay centred over southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, about 640 km east-southeast of Chennai, 710 km southeast of Kakinada, 740 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam and 860 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha). At 2.30 a.m., the storm moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 16 kmph during the past 3 hours and lay centred over the same area, which is about 600 km east-southeast of Chennai, 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 710 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, 790 km west of Port Blair and 850 km south of Gopalpur in Odisha.

The IMD has issued red and orange alerts for 23 of the 26 districts in Andhra Pradesh for Monday (October 27) in view of the cyclonic storm ‘Montha’. The districts where a red alert has been sounded are: SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and Kakinada. Except for the three districts of Anantapur, Kurnool and Sri Sathya Sai, the remaining districts have been issued orange alerts as ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ is likely on Monday (October 27). There is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in the districts where a red alert has been given.
