Tamil Nadu stuck in ‘disaster’ under TVK rule: Udhayanidhi Stalin

Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, on Sunday (June 28, 2026), alleged Tamil Nadu has got stuck in a “disaster” under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government and it is the duty of every DMK member to “retrieve” the State from this “catastrophe”. The State has seen a deterioration of law and order under the TVK government, he alleged and accused the rulers of having pushed it into an abyss.

Speaking at a couple of marriage functions at the families of DMK functionaries at Orathanadu in Thanjavur district and near Karambakudi in Pudukottai district, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the ruling “sofa model” (as described by him) TVK government has been giving a “ready-made” reply of blaming the erstwhile DMK regime for any problem.

Stating that Tamil Nadu is witnessing a series of power cuts at various places, Mr. Udhayanidhi said farmers are the most affected lot. The farmers have been protesting against the Kuruvai special package announced by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay as they feel it is “insufficient”.  The Chief Minister, however, has belittled the farmers’ protest by alleging that it is instigated by the DMK, Mr. Udhayanidhi claimed.

The Mettur dam was opened on June 12 every year for irrigation in the delta region in the last five years of DMK rule from 2021 but that did not happen this time after the TVK government took over. Mr. Udhayanidhi stated that the people of the State are beginning to realise the mistakes of the TVK government, which he claimed indulged in “horse trading” the moment it came to power. There was no reply from the Chief Minister in the Assembly when the DMK raised various issues including that of the deterioration of law and order, he added.

The “false image” of the TVK government has been completely destroyed in the one month of its rule. The Chief Minister and his government should indulge in constructive measures instead of targeting the Gen Z DMK workers by conducting searches and arresting them as they questioned the follies of the government, he said.

It is the duty of the DMK workers to expose the “anti-people” acts of the TVK government. Unlike DMK leader M.K. Stalin who visited the Kolathur constituency to thank the electorate despite facing defeat, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is yet to meet the people of the Perambur constituency from where he won to thank the voters, Mr. Udhayanidhi said.
