Kashmir Schools Till Class 5 Shut For 2 Days Due To Intense Heatwave

Srinagar:

Amid a persistent heatwave, the divisional administration of Kashmir on Sunday ordered the suspension of classes for students up to primary level in both government and private schools on July 29 and 30.

In an official order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V K Bidhuri, however, said that the teaching staff in those schools shall continue to attend to their duties.

V K Bidhuri, in an order, said, “In view of the persistent heat wave prevailing in the valey, classwork for students up to the primary level in both government and recognised private schools shall remain suspended on 29th and 30th july 2024.”

“However, all teaching and non-teaching staff shall continue to attend to their duties as usual,” read the official statement further.

On the other hand, residents of the South Kashmiri region of Anantnag seek relief from the intense summer heat in the refreshing waters of their local ponds and canals as the country experiences periodic heat waves.

As the temperature rises, families and friends gather at these natural retreats to escape the scorching sun. Children splash and play, while adults wade in the refreshing waters, enjoying a respite from the intense heat.

Speaking to ANI, a resident of the area said that because of global warming, people move to streams and ponds for relief. “This year it’s been very hot… Here it’s been 33 recently; we got beaten up this year due to heat. Children and women can’t come out due to the heat. I think there should be another summer vacation. Because of global warming, people move to streams and ponds for relief,” he said.
