Economic Survey To Be Presented On Jan 29 Followed By Union Budget On Feb 1 2026: Kiren Rijiju

Posted on January 27, 2026 By admin

The Economic Survey will be presented on Jan 29, 2026 while the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27 will be presented on Feb 1, 2026, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India Kiren Rijiju said after concluding the all-party meet on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by 51 members representing 39 different political parties.

Rijiju requested the cooperation of all parties to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. He emphasised that democracy provides a platform for representatives to voice the concerns of the people. “There should be no disruptions or ruckus in the House. Members should listen to one another and allow every person an opportunity to speak,” Rijiju said.

The Economic Survey is traditionally presented by India’s Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) before both Houses of Parliament on Jan 31 annually, It is prepared by the Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Affairs (Economic Division).

Economic Survey Projections Vs Actuals

It should be noted that India’s economic growth has often exceeded the projections made in the Economic Survey, with 2025-26 expecting to record 7.4% growth as against the 6.3-6.8% projection made in the pre-Budget document.

The GDP growth in 2023-24 worked out to be 9.2% as against the Survey’s projection of 6-6.8%

However, in 2024-25, economic growth was 6.5%, in line with the projection of 6.5-7%. The analysis indicates that the target was missed in 2022-23, when the actual economic growth was 7.6% as against the Economic Survey’s projection of 8-8.5%

In 2021-22, due to COVID, the Economic Survey did not make any projection, but the growth worked out to be 9.7%, mainly because of the base effect.

The growth in 2020-21 was negative at 5.8%, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1. Presented just ahead of the Budget, the survey sets the tone for the government’s economic thinking and offers a detailed snapshot of where India stands financially before new policy decisions are announced.
