The IMD said in a bulletin at 1 a.m. that the landfall of the Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Murasu’ near Ongole in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, will commence before 3 a.m.

Cyclone Murasu Live updates

The outer spiral band in the northern sector entered southern Coastal Andhra Pradesh. The wall cloud region in the forward sector is approaching the coastline.

As Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu moves closer to the A.P. coast, the A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has warned of extremely heavy rainfall on the intervening night of November 2-3 in parts of Ongole Rural, Kothapatnam and Chinaganjam mandals of Prakasam district.

Very heavy rainfall is expected in Ongole Urban, Naguluppalapadu, Vetapalem, Tangutur, Singarayakonda, Ulavapadu, Maddipadu, Gudluru, Zarugumilli, Santhanuthalapadu and Kandukur mandals of the district.

Between 8.30 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. on Monday (November 2, 2026), none of the districts that are likely to be affected received any rainfall, as seen from the real-time rainfall information provided by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics. However, gales of speed of 70-90 kmph, gusting to 100 kmph, have been being reported along and off the A.P, coast, according to the India Meteorological Department(IMD). Experts say the rainfall activity is likely to pick up at night and sounded a word of caution to the public and officials.

As of 11.30 p.m. on Monday (November 2, 2026), the Severe Cyclonic Storm, centred over the West Central Bay of Bengal, off the South Andhra Pradesh coast, is moving in the northwest direction with a speed of 10 kmph and is likely to further move northwestwards with the same speed.

According to the latest update, the cyclone is currently located approximately 50 km from Kavali, 60 km off southeast of Ongole, 90 km northeast of Nellore and 150 km southwest of Machilipatnam. .

For assistance or to report any problems or emergencies at any time, people in Prakasam or any other affected district can contact Mana Mitra at 9552300009.
