Close on the heels of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announcing that he will flag off the Yesvantpur-Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express in Mangaluru before November third week, on October 30, the Ministry issued a circular announcing the timetable and commercial halts for the service.

The new service may be introduced from an early convenient date or No Booking Date (for Train No. 20646/645 Mangaluru Central (MAQ)-Madgaon (MAO) -MAQ Vande Bharat Express), the Ministry informed. The Railways (the Centre for Railway Information Systems) has stopped advance reservation for the Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express with effect from November 28.

On September 29, Mr. Vaishnaw had announced that the Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express would be re-worked to operate from Madgaon to Yesvantpur in Bengaluru via Mangaluru Junction railway station to provide the premium train service to coastal Karnataka.

The October 30 circular of the Ministry comes two days after Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary met Mr. Vaishnaw in New Delhi seeking early introduction of the coastal Vande Bharat service.

Days of operation

The Yesvantpur-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, except Wednesdays. The train would depart Yesvantpur in Bengaluru at 7.35 am to reach Madgaon at 8.55 pm via Mangaluru Junction and Karwar. Yesvantpur-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express arrives in Mangaluru Junction at 3.05 pm and departs at 3.15 pm.

The Madgaon-Yesvantpur Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, except Thursdays. The train would leave Madgaon at 8.20 am to reach Yesvantpur in Bengaluru at 9.15 pm via Karwar and Mangaluru Junction. The Madgaon-Yesvantpur Vande Bharat Express arrives at Mangaluru Junction at 1.50 pm and departs at 2 pm.

The Railways would require two rakes to operate the Vande Bharat Express on this route of 670 km.

While the Yesvantpur-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express service would run at an average speed of 50 kmph, the Madgaon-Yesvantpur Vande Bharat Express service would run at an average speed of 51 kmph.

Primary maintenance of the rakes would be undertaken at Yesvantpur in Bengaluru while routine daily maintenance would be carried out at Madgaon, the Ministry stated. Coach watering would be undertaken at Mangaluru Junction.
