Results of the Legislative Council polls an eye-opener for Congress: MP

Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta said on Wednesday that teachers and graduate voters have taught a fitting lesson to the “anti-people Congress government” led by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar by electing all four NDA alliance candidates in the elections to the Legislative Council.

“This result should serve as an eye-opener for the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi, who frequently cast aspersions on EVMs in the country. The Congress must not forget that this election was conducted using ballot papers. The fact that the Congress achieved ‘zero’ result in this election stands as clear evidence of how fed up the people of the State are with the misrule of the incumbent Congress government,” he said.

Capt. Chowta, also State Secretary of the BJP added: “Will Mr. Gandhi continue to disparage the ballot papers or perhaps the discerning voters themselves? The Congress cannot conceal its own downfall through political theatrics,” he stated.

He alleged that since the Congress came to power in Karnataka, no developmental work had taken place. The State exchequer has been emptied under the pretext of implementing ‘guarantees’, he said.

“The situation has become so dire that the government led by Mr. Shivakumar simply throws up its hands, claiming there is ‘no money’ to support farmers in distress. Congress has pushed Karnataka into a state of economic anarchy through its corruption and misgovernance,” Capt. Chowta said.

Meanwhile, the BJP workers in Mangaluru and Udupi celebrated the victory in front of the district offices of the party by distributing sweets. Kutyar Naveen Shetty, president of BJP Udupi district unit, said the elections results serve as a compass for all upcoming elections in the State.
