14 candidates in fray for Ongole Mayor’s post, says Municipal Commissioner

Posted on October 28, 2026 By admin

While 14 candidates are contesting for Mayor’s post in the Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) elections, 326 persons from various political parties are in fray across 62 wards, said Municipal Commissioner T. Venkata Krishnaiah.

Addressing the media at the Collectorate here on Tuesday, the Commissioner said, “The candidates in divisions 25, 57, and 58 were elected unanimously. Of the total 1,92,873 voters across 62 wards, 92,228 are men, 1,00,591 are women, and 54 are from other categories. Meanwhile, 224 polling stations have been designated for the election.”

“The distribution and collection of election materials will be done from RISE Engineering College near Valluru for the purpose of conducting the elections. The distribution of polling materials will commence on Saturday (October 31) morning at 7 a.m.,” the Commissioner said.

“The strong rooms and counting halls have been set up on the first and second floors of the college. A total of 500 ballot boxes were stored here. After the polling on Sunday (November 1), the polling staff and election materials will be received back at the same premises,” he added.

For the conduct of the elections, 22 transport routes have been identified, and 22 route officers have been appointed. These officers will be coordinated by six zonal officers who will oversee the transport arrangements.

Buses are being arranged through the APSRTC and the District Transport Commissioner. As many as 230 polling personnel, including 180 counting supervisors and their assistants, 17 returning officers, and 34 assistant returning officers, were given training.
