Ranji Trophy – The Hindu

Ranji Trophy – The Hindu

Posted on October 27, 2026 By admin

Haryana fought back with five wickets in the morning session and frustrated Mumbai for much of the second day, but a patient half-century from Tanush Kotian and Musheer Khan’s late double strike helped the host retain control in a Ranji Trophy Group D encounter at the Sharad Pawar Academy ground on Tuesday.

Riding on Kotian’s unbeaten 52 (96b, 4×4), Mumbai thwarted a collapse and stretched its first innings total to 430 before being bowled out halfway into the afternoon session. Musheer, the opening day’s centurion, then struck twice in the last hour as Haryana ended the day at 108 for two.

Mini collapse

Resuming on 290 for three, Mumbai lost Siddhesh Lad early when Aman Kumar induced an edge that Himanshu Rana pouched at second slip. Sarfaraz Khan, who had looked comfortable, fell leg-before to Nishant Sindhu shortly after the drinks break, triggering a mini-collapse.

Haryana struck thrice in 22 balls for seven runs as Akash Anand was caught at first slip off Samant Jakhar and Shams Mulani was bowled following a deflection off his legs. At 344 for seven, the visitor had wrested the initiative before Kotian found allies in Tushar Deshpande, Mohit Avasthi and Sylvester D’Souza.

Deshpande’s cameo sparked the late-order resurgence and Kotian took it forward. Haryana appeared poised to wrap up the innings quickly, only for Kotian and Avasthi to frustrate the bowlers for half an hour before D’Souza joined the resistance. By the time Sindhu had breached D’Souza’s defence, Kotian had crossed his fifty.

Haryana’s reply began on an anxious note when Deshpande induced a false drive from Himanshu Rana, only for Divyaansh Saxena to spill a catch at third slip. In quest of a breakthrough after tea, Mumbai captain Lad turned to Musheer and the left-arm spinner delivered almost immediately, trapping Ankit leg-before with his third ball.

The Khan brothers then combined to remove Rana, with Sarfaraz catching an edge at slips. Nishant Sindhu and Dheeru Singh saw off the last hour without further damage.
