Worker dies from acid fumes at Manamadurai fertilizer plant

Posted on October 26, 2026 By admin

A worker allegedly died due to acid fumes at a private fertilizer factory in Manamadurai. Following this, the Revenue Divisional Officer temporarily sealed the factory.

Police said, Jesudas, 39, a resident of Panickanenthal near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, worked at the private factory in the Manamadurai SIPCOT that manufactured fertilizer from seaweed.

On Monday, while he was reportedly using acid at the factory, he suddenly lost consciousness due to the fumes.

He was rescued and taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared Jesudas dead. Subsequently, his body was sent to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. SIPCOT police are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, Sivaganga Revenue Divisional Officer Jebigresia and Manamadurai Tahsildar Mahadevan conducted an inspection at the factory. It was revealed that the worker had died due to acid fumes and that acid was being used without proper safety measures. Consequently, the Revenue Divisional Officer sealed the factory.
