“South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) ordered a review to look ‌at potentially ‌restoring a ‍2018 military agreement ‍with North Korea,” the News1 agency reported.

In September 2018, North Korea and South Korea held military talks on their border to discuss implementing a broad-reaching military agreement to reduce tensions. During the talks, the two Koreas agreed to create buffer zones along their land and sea boundaries, as well as a no-fly zone above the border. Formally known as formally called the Comprehensive Military Agreement (CMA), the agreement was short on specifics and negotiations have made little headway.
