Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) reported a net profit of ₹2,271 crore for the second quarter of FY2026-27, more than three times the ₹732 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter last year, as its gross refining margin improved sharply.

Revenue from operations rose to ₹22,109 crore in the quarter ended September 30, from ₹20,069 crore a year earlier. Profit before tax increased to ₹3,032 crore from ₹994 crore, according to the company’s financial performance statement dated October 22.

CPCL’s gross refining margin (GRM) rose to $20.41 per barrel in the September quarter, compared with $9.04 per barrel in the year-earlier period.

The company processed 2.590 million metric tonnes (MMT) of crude oil during the quarter, achieving a capacity utilisation of 98%, despite planned turnaround maintenance of one of its crude units.

For the six months ended September 30, CPCL’s revenue from operations increased to ₹51,486 crore from ₹38,762 crore in the corresponding period last year. Net profit rose to ₹3,288 crore from ₹675 crore.
