The police have registered a case against Perinthalmanna MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram for allegedly threatening an advocate commissioner and obstructing him from carrying out court-ordered attachment proceedings at a house at Vengoor near Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district of Keralam.
The case was registered on the directions of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Manjeri, following a complaint by advocate commissioner K.P. Krishnakumar. Four unidentified persons were also named as accused.
According to the complaint, the MLA behaved improperly and forced the advocate commissioner and his team to leave when they arrived at the house to carry out attachment proceedings under the court order.
The court had earlier sought an explanation from the police, who said the MLA had “reacted emotionally”.
However, the police report did not mention whether a case had been registered or a formal investigation conducted.
The court subsequently directed the police to register a case and investigate the complaint in accordance with the law.
The incident had also led to contempt proceedings against Mr. Kanthapuram. The MLA appeared through his counsel before the court on October 9 and submitted an unconditional apology.
The court is scheduled to deliver its decision on the apology petition on Friday (October 16, 2026).
