Deep conspiracy to bring in ultra-leftist mindset: Fadnavis slams Congress as ‘anti-constitutional’

Expressing surprise at the Opposition’s morcha on the Supreme Court on Monday (October 12, 2026), Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called it a deep conspiracy “to bring in ultra-Leftist mindset” in the country.

“Congress wants to create anarchy in the country. It is a conspiracy to undermine the Constitution written by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and the institutions created by him. They don’t believe in democracy, in the Constitution. They want to create a sentiment in the country that these institutions created by the Constitution are not able to give justice,” he said while speaking with reporters in Nagpur on Monday (October 12).

Congress and INDIA Bloc leaders marched to the Supreme Court earlier in the day on the issue of the Chief Election Commissioner. The CJI declined to meet Rahul Gandhi. Mr Gandhi later filed a petition in the Supreme Court over voter deletions and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi over the march to Supreme Court, Mr Fadnavis said that Mr Gandhi’s grandmother Indira Gandhi had tried to dismantle the constitution in 1975. “She tried to bar citizens from approaching the Supreme Court and High Courts for the enforcement of fundamental rights. The opposition came together and fought to save the constitution,” he said.

‘Congress a rejected party’

Mr Fadnavis said that several State governments had rejected Congress for several years. Giving the examples of West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Gujarat, Orissa, and Madhya Pradesh, he said that the people of 18 States had rejected Congress leadership for decades. “Despite being launched and relaunched several times, this leadership has been rejected by the people. The party has not reached a stage of anarchy,” he said.

‘All limits crossed’

He hit out at Congress and INDIA Bloc for marching towards the Supreme Court, asking how a sitting Chief Justice of India can be expected to face a protest march. “If they have any grievance, they should approach the court. It will be a breach of constitution if the CJI speaks with you. Whichever ideology you believe in, I want to appeal to all the constitutionalists. Please answer if the CJI should face a morcha,” he said.

Mr Fadnavis accused the Congress of undermining institutions like the Election Commission, the Supreme Court, the Comptroller and Auditor General, and the Reserve Bank of India.
