A complaint received at the Subhash Place police station in North West police district during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ session led to the arrest of two visa fraudsters who were scamming scores of people on the pretext of offering jobs in Israel and Iraq, the police said on Thursday.
A dedicated team was formed after a complaint regarding the alleged fraud was received during the ‘Jan Sunwai’ session held by Joint Commissioner (Northern Range), Vijay Singh, at Subhash Place police station, they said. An FIR was registered under charges of cheating, dishonesty and forgery. The investigation included technical analysis that led to the arrest of Abir Poilan, 45, a resident of West Bengal and Mustakim, 38, a resident of Delhi, the police said.
Investigations revealed that the fraudsters had scammed 46 people on the pretext of offering jobs in Israel and Iraq. Police have recovered several gold coins weighing 31 grams each, 22 passports, laptops, printers, mobile phones and documents of the victims from Poilan. Gold ornaments were recovered from Mustakim as well, said the police. They said Poilan had previously been booked for cheating.
Giving more details about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Akanksha Yadav said, “The accused allegedly operated the racket in the name of ‘Dynamic Overseas’ from an office in Netaji Subhash Place. They allegedly charged ₹1.70 lakh per person for an Israel visa and ₹70,000 for an Iraq visa, promising employment abroad.”
The accused allegedly took a gold loan from a non-banking financial company with the cheated amount. “It is being looked into and further investigation is under way,” the DCP said.
