Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday (September 26, 2026) announced a joint public march with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai on October 4, staging protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Mr. Thackeray said, “We will jointly organise the protest but it would be a public movement aimed at raising concerns over the electoral roll revision process.”
He called the Election Commission of India (ECI) a wing of the BJP and targeted ECI chief Gyanesh Kumar, saying, “He was heading ECI as part of BJP and under the name of SIR has done fraud with citizens of India.”
On September, Mr. Thackeray criticised BJP for using people like Gyanesh Kumar to weaponise and misuse the power. He stated, “The irregularities within the SIR and even Election Commissioners are speaking out about them, the conclusion is that the SIR process should be scrapped.”
He called opposition parties in the country to unite for this cause and launch a massive demonstration with demand to conduct elections on ballot papers.
The time and venue will be announced later.
