A city court has sentenced a 35-year-old man to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹16,000 for causing the death of an autorickshaw driver while riding a two-wheeler under the influence of alcohol in the Triplicane area in 2020.
Police said, on the night of October 25, 2020, Kishore was riding his two-wheeler in a rash and negligent manner in an inebriated state near the Tarapore Towers and Croma showroom in Anna Salai. He collided with auto driver G. Raja, 45, who had parked his vehicle on the roadside and was waiting for passengers.
Raja sustained severe injuries in the accident and was rushed by a 108 ambulance, with the help of members of the public, to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Two days later, he died while undergoing treatment. Following the accident, the Traffic Investigation Wing registered a case and arrested Kishore.
After completing the investigation, the police filed the final report before the VI Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore, where the case was taken up for trial. Following the completion of the trial, the court delivered its judgement holding Kishore guilty of the offence.
