The Salem Corporation has imposed a penalty of ₹10 lakh on R.S.K. Tech Traders Private Limited, the contractor engaged in solid waste management Salem city, for failing to comply with contractual conditions on segregation and collection of waste from commercial establishments.
A release from the civic body said the contractor should collect segregated waste from households and commercial establishments. However, it had not taken adequate steps to collect the segregated waste from commercial establishments. The Corporation said only four tractor vehicles, one for each of its four zones, were deployed for the purpose.
At the weekly review meetings chaired by the Corporation Commissioner, the contractor was instructed to deploy two additional light vehicles in each zone and pay greater attention to the collection of segregated waste from commercial establishments. Despite repeated instructions and notices issued to commercial establishments, the contractor had not deployed additional vehicles or taken effective steps to collect segregated waste, the release said.
Holding that the contractor had failed to carry out the solid waste management work as stipulated in the contract, the Corporation imposed a ₹10 lakh penalty. The contractor was directed to remit the amount to the Corporation treasury within seven days. In case of failure to pay, the penalty would be deducted from the bills payable to the company, the release added.
