New initiative to improve primary students’ proficiency in Mathematics, languages

The General Education department has launched a new initiative to address the learning gaps of lower primary and upper primary students in Kerala in Malayalam, English, and Mathematics.

‘Revive-Navajeevanam’ is being implemented by Samagra Shiksha Kerala as part of the 100-day programme of the government with the objective of increasing students’ proficiency in languages and Mathematics.

Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen released the brochure of the programme. General Education former principal secretary D. Sajith Babu, SSK project director K. Mohana Kumar were present.

The Minister also inaugurated the distribution of 4 kg of rice to schoolchildren as part of the mid-day meal scheme in connection with Onam. As many as 23.5 lakh schoolchildren will benefit.

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob, who was the chief guest, said 905 tonnes of rice will be distributed to students through Supplyco. Minister for Health K. Muraleedharan presided.

Mr. Samsudheen also distributed festive wear (Onakkodi) to students from forest areas and marginalised communities who live in residential hostels in the State. The SSK runs six residential hostels for boys and one for girls.
