Congress MLA C.R. Mahesh on Friday (August 14, 2026) apologised for travelling without wearing a seat belt, saying it was a violation of traffic rules and that he regretted the lapse.
In a Facebook post, the MLA from Karunagappally in Kerala, said travelling without a seat belt was against the law and admitted that such a mistake happened on his part.
“Many people violate traffic rules knowingly or unknowingly. However, elected representatives should not commit such lapses,” he said in the post.
Mr. Mahesh said he recalled that the violation occurred while he was travelling to visit the tomb of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at Puthuppally church ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Says fines paid
He said, as far as he remembered, he had paid the fines for all such cases when he contested the election.
“If not, I will ensure that the fine is paid and take care not to repeat the mistake,” he said.
Mr. Mahesh said he was issuing the statement after the incident was reported by the visual media.
“I apologise for the incident and thank the media for pointing out the mistake,” the MLA added.
