Bicycle day fete: bicycle rally from Central Stadium on Sunday

Bicycle day fete: bicycle rally from Central Stadium on Sunday

Posted on June 6, 2026 By admin

Thiruvananthapuram will join more than 450 cities and towns across India in celebrating World Bicycle Day India 2026 with a bicycle rally at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

The bicycle rally will be flagged off from Central Stadium by District Collector Anu Kumari.

The rally is expected to witness the participation of more than 200 cyclists, including students, women riders, fitness enthusiasts, families, and cycling groups from different parts of the city.

A major highlight of the celebration will be a ‘Bicycle Expo’ showcasing different types of bicycles, promoting cycling culture, and awareness about sustainable mobility.

World Bicycle Day, recognised by the United Nations, is celebrated globally to spotlight the bicycle as a simple, reliable, clean, and sustainable means of transportation that contributes to healthier people and greener cities.

The rally on Sunday aims at promoting cycling as a healthy, affordable, sustainable, and environment-friendly mode of transport while encouraging citizens to adopt active lifestyles and cleaner mobility choices.

It will highlight the growing cycling movement in Kerala and the increasing recognition of cycling as a solution to traffic congestion, pollution, rising fuel costs, climate challenges, and public health concerns, the organisers said in a statement on Saturday.

Special focus will be given to women’s participation and bicycle literacy initiatives led by organisations such as SheCycling, which has been working to empower women and girls through cycling across Kerala and other parts of India

The event is being organised by Sports Authority of India regional centre here in association with CRPF, Indus Cycling Embassy, FCI, CISF, and ETRL, along with fitness communities, environmental groups, and active mobility advocates as part of the Fit India Movement nationwide initiative.

The nationwide World Bicycle Day rallies are supported by BYCS and Bicycle Mayors across India, strengthening the growing movement for cycling, sustainable mobility, and healthier cities.
