Cohance Lifesciences reports ₹45.19 crore loss in Q1 on lower revenue

Cohance Lifesciences reports ₹45.19 crore loss in Q1 on lower revenue

Posted on August 5, 2026 By admin

Contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) Cohance Lifesciences (formerly Suven Pharmaceuticals) reported ₹45.19 crore loss on a consolidated basis for the quarter ended June compared to the ₹46.40 crore net profit in the year earlier period.

Total income declined to ₹434.51 crore (₹563.48 crore), which the company attributed to shipment phasing in pharma CDMO, a softer contribution from agrochemicals, lower formulations revenue and timing of execution across parts of the portfolio.. A strong growth at subsidiary Sapala and resilient API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) performance helped.

Gross margins contracted to 71.5% from 73.0% in Q1FY26, largely due to product mix and a lower contribution from the CDMO business at 38%, reflecting the lumpy nature of the business and phasing of orders towards the second half (H2), the company said.

For the quarter ended March, the company had reported ₹8.31 crore net profit on ₹617.28 crore total income.

Executive Chairman and Group CEO Umang Vohra said “As we had guided, Q1 has been weak on both revenue and EBITDA and would be our lowest quarter ever. The quarter has played out accordingly. From here, we expect improvement in Q2 and a return to year-on-year growth from the second half, supported by secured orders, scheduled deliveries and progress across our late-stage pipeline.”

Five U.S. FDA observations

In a filing, Cohance Lifesciences said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) has issued five observations post an inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility at Pashamylaram, Hyderabad.

The inspection was conducted from July 27 to August 5 and on conclusion the company received a Form FDA 483 containing five observations. None of the observations relate to data integrity issues, it said.

The company said a detailed assessment of the observations is underway and it is preparing a comprehensive response, including appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), which will be submitted to the U.S. FDA within the stipulated timeline.

The observations are addressable and it will continue to work closely and constructively with the U.S. FDA to ensure their timely and effective resolution, Cohance said.
