A 38-year-old history-sheeter and real estate businessman was hacked to death by an unidentified gang near Pothur in Avadi on Saturday night.

The deceased, identified as Satheesh, 38, of Manikandapuram near Pothur, was engaged in real estate business. According to the police, Satheesh was on his way home when a group of unidentified men waylaid him near Manikandapuram. The gang attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, leaving him with multiple cut injuries. He died at the spot, following which the assailants fled the scene.

Personnel from the Avadi Tank Factory police station reached the spot after being alerted and secured the area. The body was later sent to a government hospital for postmortem examination. The police have registered a murder case and are investigating.
