The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has issued notices to commercial property owners with outstanding dues of ₹25 lakh or more, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Thursday.

He said the government has given defaulters until August 15 to clear their dues, adding that failure to do so could result in the attachment and sealing of properties under the relevant provisions of the law.

“The DJB has the authority to attach and seal the properties of water bill defaulters. So far, we have identified 1,025 commercial properties with outstanding water bills of ₹25 lakh or more accumulated over the years. If the defaulters fail to pay within the deadline, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the rules,” the Minister said.

The Delhi government aims to recover nearly ₹5,000 crore in outstanding principal water dues while providing relief by waiving approximately ₹11,000 crore in accumulated late payment surcharge.

The Delhi government had introduced the Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) Waiver Scheme last year for domestic consumers, which was subsequently extended to commercial consumers as well.

“Commercial consumers can also avail of the benefits of the LPSC Waiver Scheme. We expect this initiative to significantly improve the recovery of long-pending dues and strengthen the financial position of the Delhi Jal Board,” said Mr. Singh.
