Privately-owned miner Vedanta’s net profit soared more than two-and-half times in the June-end quarter marked by enhanced cost efficiency and strong output across all segments.

Along with their results, the company announced Arun Misra as their new Chief Executive Officer for a one-year period, starting August 1.

Furthermore, the miner also announced that it would demerge its surplus real estate portfolio into a new entity by the name Vedanta Property Platforms Limited (VPPL).

Q1 profit zooms

The privately-owned miner’s net profit in the June-end quarter increased 152% on a year-over-year basis to ₹5,294 crore.

Revenues soared 51% during the same period to ₹23,456 crore.

Subsidiary Zinc India mined 268 kilotons (KT) during the quarter – up 4% on a year-over-year basis – maintaining its lowest quarterly cost of production at $851 per tonne – 16% lower on a year-over-year basis.

Ferro Alloys subsidiary too posted their highest ore production – up 41% on a year-over-year basis – to 153 KT.

Reflecting on the results, the incoming CEO stated, “We have delivered a strong start to FY27, with robust performance across all business segments of demerged Vedanta,” adding, “This consistent operational execution across our portfolio reflects the strength of our underlying asset base and our continued focus on volume growth, cost efficiency and value creation.”

VPPL demerger to be a vertical split

Vedanta informed that the VPPL demerger would be executed as a vertical split wherein shareholders of Vedanta would receive 1 share of VPPL for every 20 shares of Vedanta.

The demerged portfolio comprises of about 2,200 acres of industrial land and about 55,000 square feet of residential and commercial properties.

“The proposed demerger will enable to unlock value out of these surplus assets,” it held.
